Los Critics Choice Awards también dan como máximo ganador a The Power of the Dog

The Power of The Dog mantuvo su posición como favorita rumbo al Oscar tras ganar en los Critics Choice Awards y en los BAFTA.

La Critics Choice Association (CCA), una entidad que agrupa a unos 500 críticos cinematográficos de Estados Unidos y Canadá, coronó a este filme de Netflix con los premios a la mejor cinta, mejor dirección, mejor fotografía y mejor guion adaptado.

Su directora, Jane Campion, se llevó el galardón a la mejor dirección tras un fin de semana plagado de triunfos a su nombre. También mereció el gran premio del Sindicato de Directores de Hollywood (SAG Awards).

“Soy como la abuela de la ola de mujeres cineastas, ¡pero aún estoy aquí!”, dijo la cineasta de 67 años en el escenario del Hotel Fairmont de Los Ángeles, donde se celebró la gala de los Critics Choice Awards.

Jane Campion es la única mujer que ha logrado estar nominada al premio Oscar a la mejor dirección en dos ocasiones. La primera vez que esto ocurrió fue con The Piano, en 1993.

Y tras esta cosecha de premios quedan pocas dudas de que el próximo 27 de marzo se unirá a las otras dos directoras que ya cuentan con el Oscar en una categoría históricamente masculina: Chloé Zhao por Nomadland (2021) y Kathryn Bigelow por The Hurtl Locker (2010).

La gala de entrega de los Critics Choice Awards estaba inicialmente prevista para enero, con la intención de reemplazar a los Golden Globe, pero la variante ómicron obligó a posponerlos a este domingo.

Su coincidencia con los BAFTA provocó que muchos de los vencedores aceptaran el premio desde Londres.

Will Smith sumó aún más puntos para el Oscar al hacerse con el premio a mejor actor protagónico por King Richard y Jessica Chastain triunfó como mejor actriz por The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

En las categorías de reparto de los Critics Choice Awards, la estadounidense de origen puertorriqueño Ariana DeBose se impuso a la puertorriqueña Rita Moreno, ambas nominadas por la nueva versión West Side Story.

DeBose, que ha ganado en los BAFTA, los SAG Awards y los Golden Globe, recogió el premio desde Londres y dedicó unas palabras a Moreno, a quien agradeció “que haya abierto el camino” a otras actrices latinas.

Por su parte, Troy Kotsur venció como mejor actor de reparto por CODA, una película que cuenta con una mayoría de actores sordomudos.

La británica Belfast se hizo con el galardón al mejor reparto y uno de sus protagonistas, Jude Hill, de 11 años, protagonizó uno de los momentos más entrañables de la ceremonia al recoger el premio al mejor actor joven.

Finalmente, la japonesa Drive My Car ganó en la categoría internacional y The Mitchells vs. the Machines en animación.

Succession y Ted Lasso triunfan en tv

En el apartado televisivo de los Critics Choice Awards, Succession volvió a dominar en el género dramático mientras Ted Lasso lo hizo en comedia.

También hubo un éxito para la serie The Squid Game (El juego del calamar), ya que Lee Jung-jae se llevó la estatuilla a mejor actor de una serie dramática.

Mare of Easttown se impuso como la mejor serie limitada (miniserie) y su protagonista, Kate Winslet, repitió el triunfo de los Emmy como mejor actriz en este formato.

La temporada de premios de Hollywood continuará con las galas de los sindicatos de guionistas y productores, el fin de semana que viene, para culminar con los Oscar el 27 de marzo.
